Fall is in full swing now, well except the 90 degree days we are having this week. One thing fall has always meant here in NC is that the State Fair is coming!!!!!!
I have such fond memories of the state fair as a kid. We went every year... first Saturday.... and we spent all day into the night. The State fair meant rides, hotdogs and candy apples (my favorite)! The fair has a certain excitement in the air and it ripples through you as soon as you park your car and head to the gate.
Well I am following that tradition with my boys. They have been to the fair every year since they were born and we went this week again with Mimi and Granddaddy.
Now I should stop here and say I have a strict rule in life........ "if it wasn't there last week and it isn't going to be there next week and it came in on the back of a truck, I am NOT riding it!" However, the fair is the one time I break my cardinal rule.
Without a doubt this was the best year yet with them at the fair. They are officially tall enough to ride all the rides they want, of course at 2 and 5 we stick to the little kid rides. They aren't scared and they loved every minute of it! You would think the little one would have a tiny bit of hesitation - nope not at all. I think he smiled bigger than any of them. (I secretly love his spirit - he may be the spitting image of me in that way.)
The higher and faster the rider, the bigger they smiled.
I do feel sorry for the one little boy that clearly was not enjoying the ride! While everyone else has a look of sheer joy - poor kid has a look of terror.
They had hotdogs, fudge, lemonade and cotton candy but the rides.... that was my little dare devils' favorite part. What was mommy's favorite part? The hugs and smiles, the "I love you mommy"s and the memories we made (I even rode a few with them!)
Moments Matter! These are the moments that make up a lifetime.
