This week we celebrated you my dear. That's right, 6 years ago (where has the time gone?) we welcomed your amazing joy into this world.
I Remember it like it was yesterday...
I thought I had everything figured out. My ultra planner, OCD self was beyond ready. After all, we already had Gabe and Clara, so obviously we got this! I mean, how different could this possibly be?!?!
Ready, set, go - time to implement my master plan (ha ha ha...hilarious right?!)...yep that went out the window! You'd think the 3rd time around I'd know better lol!
Fresh off an NC ice storm (yes, a state not exactly equipped for such weather) you decided you were ready to make your grand entrance, and really test out daddy's northern roots and winter weather driving skills. Unfortunately ice is ice and it was a slippery, slow, cautious ride.
We Made it to the hospital, with no time to spare (literally, you were in daddy's arms 20 minutes after we pulled into the hospital). Then at 7:09 pm on December 26th, 2010, our family was complete :). Our "One Team, One Dream" was standing strong as a party of five now, and we couldn't have been happier.
Looking back now, you were showing us exactly what was to come - your special "predictably unpredictable" self from day one. There would be far less planning and much more learning things right along with you...really embracing the term "living in the moment."
We would be blessed to experience things from a different perspective than we had before. Like retrieving you from heights you've climbed, frightening enough to leave mom and dad breathless!
We would see and feel things with greater detail, like mud...it would no longer be seen as just an extraordinary mess, but rather a way to encourage sensory play.
We would discover that almost everything can be referred to simply by shape!
We will have a brand new appreciation for the smallest of details and kindness of others.
You are special Addie, and special needs children are not given to special families, they are what can make a family special!
Thank you Addie, for making our family special. You are a beautiful joy not only to us, but to this world.
We can't wait to see what's next for you (and us;) in year 6!
I love you sweetie.
